| (August 2006) BROKEN LIZARD is comprised of Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske and long-time collaborator and producer, Richard Perello. Cataland Films is the production company for Broken Lizard’s films. Broken Lizard formed at Colgate University as a student sketch comedy group. Following graduation, they relocated to New York City, where they performed live shows in exchange for sexual favors. The group began its feature film career with their award-winning debut Puddle Cruiser. Shot in 1996, the film became an official selection at the 1997 Sundance Film Festival, went on to be part of the Berlin and London Film Festivals, and won the Golden Starfish Award at the Hamptons Film Festival. They followed up with the independently-financed, cult-hit Super Troopers, which premiered at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival and was released worldwide in February 2002. Besides earning more than $18 million at the box office, Super Troopers also found a massive audience in home video market, selling over three million copies on DVD. They followed Super Troopers with yet another cult favorite, the horror-comedy Club Dread which was released in February of 2004. In 2005, the group co-wrote and acted in the film remake of the popular 70s television series The Dukes of Hazzard, which was directed by Chandrasekhar. Following the success of Dukes, the Lizards signed a 3 year first look deal with Warner Brothers, where they have set up shop and hired a team of elves to help them craft comedy for the studio. Broken Lizard’s latest project, Beerfest, is scheduled for worldwide release with Warner Bros on August 25th 2006. In addition to Broken Lizard, the film also stars Wil Forte (Saturday Night Live), Eric Christian Olsen (Not Another Teen Movie, Dumb and Dumberer), Mo’Nique and Cloris Leachman. Broken Lizard is currently writing another comedy for Warner Brothers titled, Nutcracker, about a nasty, washed-up NFL linebacker who turns to ballet to get his edge back. In addition to writing, Broken Lizard is producing several other films for Warner Brothers including, Ambulance Chasers, Take My Wife and The Baby Maker. They are also producing Pony Bush for Dimension Films. |
